We discuss how to build green with a simple straw-bale wall, rice straw, a waste product from the Sacramento Valley California. Tilling this waste into the soil after harvesting the rice is not always the best soil management option and burning is not allowed because it is estimated that this was the source of more PM-10 (the super small particles that our lungs can not expel) pollution than the California Power Plants. Straw-bale walls are a sustainable solution, great insulators at a R Factor of between 45 and 55- three times the average wood framed home wall, have a very appealing adobe finish look, especially when plastered with natural clay plasters. As easy as playing with Lego’s and more fun.
